Author Topic: $50 for proper Helicopter script  (Read 4591 times)

As you may remember, I made the Dolphin helicopter a while ago and it got flamed to death (and I whimpered away from it like a wounded dog). Anyway, despite there being a huge period of time since then and there still not being a proper helicopter, I have decided to take action.

The main complaint with the old helicopter was that it use the magic carpet script. I plan to entirely remake the helicopter, models, animations and all myself to a higher standard, but I need a proper script for it.

Functions needed:

Hover
Raise/lower hover height with 2 keys (maybe +/- on the numpad?)
Appropriate physics for a helicopter including flight.

Upon completion and delivery of the script (and after testing) $50 USD will be sent via Paypal to the creator.

I hope to work with someone on this project as it is dubious idea to work separately on this.

If your interested, either post below or send me a PM. I am serious about the money and the project.

I can probably get it to hover and make the keys for raising/lowering hover height but I don't need your money :/

I don't need your money :/
I don't believe you just said that :D

I don't need your money :/
See, thing is, if you do this you're possibly stealing someone else's money  :cookieMonster:

I don't need it since its like a 2 minute thing to make some keys set the vehicles velocity upward or downward, and then just messing with some hover variables :/

I'll leave the flying physics to someone else, however.

Thats a waste if $50....

This community needs a mod group were people work together to make mods, it could lead to many and high quality add-ons.

My reason for offering $50 is simply as an incentive. Theres no loving way I'm going to post this in the suggestions forum as that is a waste of time. I figured just asking for the script would look like begging and simply be denied, or at best I might get a hacked together script that doesn't work.

@Rkynick - I'm looking for the physics too, thats part of the whole "quality" side of it. Hence the monetary offering.

@laremere - I agree, but we all know how well that usually turns out... *glances at Community Projects forum* Besides, most of the best modders are busy making their own RPGs or "waiting for V9". My suggestion/offer/plan is meant to be a group effort, I will provide the model and the animation, the rest is up to someone else.

The flyingVehicle (Magic carpet) script contains variables for "jetForce" and emitters which would be useful for hovering, but they are only usable when you press the Jet key - which ejects you from the vehicle!

You could try changing the hoverHeight, createHoverHeight, drag forces and mass/density to see if you can get it to stay hovering at any height it is at, then pressing the relevant hover keys apply velocity greater than the stable force. Shift and Space would work for hover height keys (easier to reach from WASD), although space already causes the "Emergency Brake" to happen, at least in ground vehicles. (I don't know what happens to air vehicles)

It probably wouldn't be able to tilt much up or down (10-15 degrees) so the hover would have use.

You could try experimenting with engineSound to see whether that is implemented and whether you can find a nice engine sound to use.

Some stuff like the stuntplane's propeller code would make the helicopter able to stop it/them (back propeller) if it is on the ground.

Space doesn't stop air vehicles unless they are rolling on the ground on it's wheels. Trust me, I tried to use space in mid-flight... >_<

Jump and crouch to go up and down would be easiest.

@ Space guy - all great suggestions and I wouldn't mind a system like that. Thing is I lack the skills necessary to make that.

It'd be funny if Badspot sent you a script for a quick 50 bucks.

On the last TGE game I played, you press shift to make a flying vehicle go up.

I doubt he needs money that bad, but if he wants, sure.
