How do I get Gmod?

I have seen that loads of people have Gmod. How can I get this? Is it free, aswell? I have steam if thats what I need (Most likely) but no games on it. Also, post a link if there is one. I need a free one, too.

You can get steam if you have one game that runs the Source engine, apparently.

You can get Gmod 9 for free though if you got a crap load of other source games.
