Rendering is different, he wants the bricks to be textureless(i.e still visible but the bumps don't show up and etc.)

You want a Blank colour render for the bricks.. Hmm.

This is already possible, with separate datablocks.  Look at the vehicle spawn.  It has a plain red top with a black triangle rendered on top.  You could make custom .blbs that have all plain sides.
