well it could still be blindingly bright when it renders the bricks but the rest of the map looks dark

"Vector" has full-bright lighting and thus looks like ass.

The entire point of a "construct" map is to have an environment where everything looks homogeneous, i.e. you can't tell up from down.

These two-tone versions completely defy that point.  Congratulations, you've messed up the easiest map in the game.
