I got a security update twice so far.

Well, I have to examples of extremly nice boards:

1. Phorum:
 It's very fast, secure, stable, very customizable and simple. I'd suggest that when I look at the current Forum setup you prefer.

2. MyBB:
 It's not small but still quite fast, it's more secure than smf I think and has a badass addon and theme system, I would really suggest that if you wanted to give the blockland a little more character and style. It uses a smart combination of database template/theme and caching.

Thing is, he needs a database converter to do it. Otherwise everything will go missing and everyone will have to re regester and stuff like that.

THIS JUST IN: SMF IS stuff.

I'd recommend http://www.phpbb.com/ .  Their newest version that was put out little more then a year ago ( I think ) is very nice.  It has many many features, as seen here: http://www.phpbb.com/about/features/

Some features I think this community could use:
Every feature I've seen in SMF is in php.
Togglable by user curse filter.
Sub-forums.
Custom BB code set by admins (night be useful)
Configurable max quote nesting depth.
Custom user profile fields (thing BL_ID).
Easy pruning XD

Blocklands old forum used php. Untill it died.

PHPBB is froum software on steroids that have been created by god compaired to PHP. I have used both V3 and V2 and recommend both highly. the only major diffrence is code optimization and style abilitys. PHPBB v3 can also have video from youtube and other video sites brought in useing flash and the HTML code they give you. No more youtube visits if he decides to get it.
