Some of you know that I was working on a rewrite to the Bots Mod to make it work with v9 and events better. I had managed to make a working bot that moved, jumped and could be generally controlled by the system. It wasn't perfect - I still had things to do with it - but it worked.

Recently, my computer has been randomly stopping 'dead' in the middle of starting up (at "btkrnl.sys" for the interested) , forcing me to use the recovery disk. I could usually get it to work, but it takes a lot of time and is annoying.

Yesterday, I had joined Spation's server where people were doing some things with Events. Suddenly, I was kicked out of the server and got a blank error. Odd. I tried to rejoin, but my internet had completely cut out - attempting to reconnect my wireless USB stick didn't work ("Unrecognised" sound) even though it worked for every other computer in the house. Other USB devices worked fine as well.

I decided to do a 'system restore' to see if it fixed the settings and made Windows recognise my wireless again. Three quarters of the way through "Restoring Files", it froze up and stopped.

After turning off the power, I tried again. Three quarters of the way through "Restoring Files", it froze up and stopped.

Finally, I used one that was earlier than the last. It worked: I got my Internet back. However, three files had disappeared from my computer and as far as I know, only those three.

"AddOn_Bots.cs"
"SpaceTick.cs"
"server.cs"

Which leaves me with a lot of people expecting a release of a mod that has evaporated in front of me and a useless description.txt file to mark where it used to be. Thank you, Microsoft.

So far, of the three "un-delete" programs I have found:
The first couldn't find any of my files.
The second and third ("WinUnDelete" and "File-Rescue Plus") refuse to let me actually recover the files until you pay them lots of money. Useful. They're also listed under "Odds of recovery - Hopeless".

mr space, you shoulda jumped to ubuntu and mounted the windows files, then you coulda found your files and moved them to ubuntu for safety :3

I'd help you out but I don't speak computer.  :cookieMonster:

Ironic, due to my two older brothers and my dad being computer programmers. I just failed to learn at an early age.

Disaster averted, thanks to some random hacky proprietary program. Microsoft should include one of these... or make an OS that works. Backing up files now!

EDIT: Actually, it's deleted one more file. Blockland.exe in the v9 folder. Useful.

****, I was just about to make a crappier version and force everyone to use it.

Awwww, forget no! NOT THE BOTS!

Microsoft is a monopoly and that's why every single game for PC works only on windows(rarely on Macs too). If Microsoft would step aside, Unix based operating systems would take over and everything would be win. I wish I could tell you that that day will come, I wish I could tell you that everything is going to be alright. But sometimes, life just isn't fair.
I laugh at Eu's pathetic attempts at suing Microsoft for their monopoly, to them the fine is just pocket money.

See, this is what happens when you go with the lowest bidder.

Which version of Windows?

Microsoft removes custom Halo drawing and signatures from the side of a gamer's Xbox 360 during a repair
The red ring of death is a sad moment for any Xbox 360 owner. One of the owners unfortunate enough to suffer this problem is one by the name of Nathaniel. However Nathaniel’s Xbox 360 was no ordinary one - over the last two years it had been his trusted travel companion. On his travels he had gathered many signatures from the gaming community, including some from the staff at Bungie, and a unique Master Chief drawing from Rooster Teeth, the studio behind the legendary Red vs. Blue.

Naturally it was a sad event for Nathaniel having to send of his Xbox 360 for repair, but this was nothing compared to the horrific discovery he made upon the consoles return. Not only had Microsoft’s repair centre fixed his Xbox 360, but someone had also taken the time to remove all the signatures and art work on his console despite the letter he had included with the console. The letter explained how important it was to him and that all of the custom markings been drawn with a permanent marker making them very difficult to wash off.

Nathaniel was assured by customer services when he first contacted them that his console would be returned to him the way it was when he sent it, but sadly this was not the case. The gaming community has been very sympathetic towards this unfortunate case and Bungie have said they are working on something to help their fan in need. Naturally this raises the question of foul play at the repair centre, but so far Microsoft’s only official response has been, “we are looking into the issue and working to correct the situation.”

Whatever the outcome it looks like Bungie will make sure Nathaniel gets fair compensation for this unfortunate event.

Okay, I know your a respected person, tails, believe me, I respect you with great amount and as do many members of the community.

I'm not speaking as a whole of the community or against the entire group of users who use Ubuntu, but I'm seriously sick of you trying to get us to use Ubuntu. It's up to people themselves to choose what OS they want, not the owner's sons friend or something.

Thanks for the newsflash, Tom Brokaw.

Space Guy: Always, ALWAYS keep a second external USB hard drive, preferably one around 10/15 GB unless your backups are going to be big. Always, in case, God forbid, hell is loose on your machine, you'll have a backup of every game save, profile, and other stuff like music and script files for games that you made on that hard drive. In case your machine gets f'd in the a, your stuff will be fine. Continually updating the backup will be even better, too.

I know you have the problem solved, but you just had a REALLY close call. Unless you guarantee all your stuff will be safe on that little program thing, buy that hard drive.

System Restore will actively delete any .cs file it finds that dates some time after the restore date.

This has happened to me on two occasions and now I always back-up all my important add-ons in a usb drive before doing a restore if I need it. Also the internet thing happened to me as well. I think there's a way to fix it other then to do a system restore, and it has something to do with your system's IP. I recall windows would occasionally delete your IP address which would basically not allow you to connect to any other IP or some such. It sounds ridiculous I know but that was basically the problem.

This would mean that you would not be able to connect to any server of any kind, and if you'd try to load an internet site you'd simply get "Site not Found" over and over, instantaneously.

One thing that's really annoying is the problem has no warning, it just happens out of nowhere when you might not even be doing anything. It's an issue with XP, and probably with Vista too but you'll never notice under the heap of other problems vista has.
