I've yet to see any MMO's that didn't have grinding as a core gameplay element. Planetside came close to breaking the mold, but it too was ultimately still stuck in that horrible cycle.

Grinding isn't just about killing enemies, grinding is whatever you do just to raise your stats or your level, including doing missions. Somewhere along the way the player ceases to realize how monotonous and job-like the gameplay really is and at that point they are hooked. The mystic of the game is broken when they finally discover how much time they have wasted and how little fun they had had. This typically occurs when they reach the limit of level raising.

Sure, maybe you are replacing elves with giant battling robots, and maybe that jar of ether is now the "allspark" but it is still the same game.

even worse is when you finally accomplish those high skills or levels.
and you find the endgame gameplay is not worth all the trouble you went through.

you "won" the mmo, time is especially wasted, and you realize it even harder at this point.


i LOVE mmo's but i force myself to socialize and roleplay to enjoy it lol. working hard to become all rich and powerful is better spent on real life :p
real life glory still isn't as fun, but there are more options lol

also, Snake, you're missing a Special stat or something for attacking/blocking with weapons/skills/transformer magic



and by that i mean corrosive acid, laser beams, airstrikes, etc.
