Author Topic: the forums are growing like oh stuff (Read 6972 times)

Time for badspot to switch to VBulletin.Badspot lives in Oregon (Eugene, OR 97401), very close to Mocheeze (Portland, OR) and Me (Vancouver/Portland Metro Area, OR/WA).

VBulletin would be nice, yeah, but for now even a switch to for example MyBulletinBoard (MyBB) would be a big step forward.
It even has a SMF converter and is definitly faster than SMF.

The only board that is even faster than that should be Phorum. Problem, there is no converter from SMF to Phorum.

Edit*: by the way, as a fast solution to speed the current things a bit up would be putting the master server on a different port than 80 and then start all the standard php webstuff on port 80 running Apache instead of IIS.

Badspot could buy forum software easily. 20 Keys = $400 Minus taxes, theres still money to buy it. Although the only reason he might change is if smf cant handle it.
Also, Phorum sucks. Really. I tried it a while ago and i did not like it one bit.

If you didn't like it cause of the lack of features, well, that's your problem, you have to take your time configuring it, but when it's configured it runs extremly fast.
And I took phorum as an example cause of the basic set of features, and the configuration badspot uses for the current forum.

Well, when it comes to features, MyBBoard is the best free forum software right now, and a bit more features wouldn't be bad for this forum.
MyBBoard had a complete rewrite a few weeks ago, it got much better after that, though, it was very nice before that already :D

we broke 2 million page views in a month, by a long shot! 2446351 views in august woo!

and we also broke 1000 new members in a month! that's like 33ish members a day!

Yeah, that will help! Because you can already post without logging in!

And secondly, a few of us were discussing this in-game. How are we veterans going to keep in touch? And how are the British people meant to keep up? A while ago a topic would be started in the American evening (My focking night) and would be posted in like wildfire, I'd wake up and have to go through 4 pages to get my say. More recently this happened again, but with eight pages, not four.
