Would it work if you had your planet with a set speed using DTS Plus, and a (different speed for effect, I suppose) transparent layer using DTS?

I guess it isn't really THAT big of a deal, but whatever

Then the cloud layer wouldn't be transparent.

Besides, it may seem fast, but if it were realistic you would hardly notice it spinning. I think it's current speed, although faster than I would like, is reasonable.

I will be releasing the source files for the map in a seperate package so others may modify and expand upon what I have done.

I greatly favor the idea of exploration and a large area in between planets. I think its really fun to actually discover different planets. I also think that you should create an asteroid belt if possible that would be awesome...and maybe moons ;P

I would Generally like a map with bigger planets to build on much like some other ideas I read. Also you should fix that Venus problem where you couldn't build on the surface. The hot planets should slowly hurt you when you touch it.

In DTS Plus, click on the Material then hit edit, has a ton of options to do with your texture like transparency, trust me its a must to play with them and learn what each one does so you have a heap more options to add to your future models.

Thanks for the info Packer, i'll try that out as soon as I can.

Sadly we are still waiting for power to be restored (along with 2.2 million other people) so I still don't have access to my files.

There are 3 issues with having the planets spaced far apart...

1. View distance- depending on what I set it to, it could be really hardware intensive, or you might not be able to see some planets from a distance. Also, the engine seems to crash above a VD of 2000.

2. No spacial references - One problem with the last map is that it was often times difficult to judge where you were going and how fast.

3. Long travel times - If you use a fast vehicle, they become difficult to control at slow speeds and sometimes impossible to land. If you only have slow vehicles, you get people whining all the time to be fetched to other planets.

Potential solutions:

1. Mostly a matter of experimentation. Pure trial and error and maybe a little math.

2. It would be cool if I could offer some spacial reference points, like small pieces of debris spread throughout space. Problem is, the only suitable tool is the shape replicator, but that works in tangent with the terrain block (which this map doesnt have).

3. Should I include teleporters with the map? In what form? A brick save? Part of the map? Or, should I include some kind of space vehicle? perhaps with a turbo boost function?

Thoughts?

What do you think of adding names to the planets? You know, just like player names, so that you can tell where you're going a bit better.

That would be a great idea...but how? :o

Not sure if you can use %object.setShapeName on interiors (you are using interiors, correct?). Do you know how to script well enough to try setShapeName on them?

=/  what?

The Player names thing wouldn't work, names are only visible on visible objects, so it would most likely end up pointless. However it could still be good for ID'ing planets.

We need something that's like bushi's old nitro, toggleable, and a lot freaking faster. So then you could land.

Hyperspace.

I'm not that sadistic.
