Read the bible.  666 is Satan's number.  Iron Maiden just quoted that part and said 'beast' because thats what it says in the good book.  If you read that entire part, you would know that beast = Satan.

They were writing in code. ( Not like "Alpha niner to big daddy we got a code red 47 on our hands" ) But it was from letters from someone maybe john I'm not sure to some christians. And they didn't want to be persecuted so they wrote in code. And they used 666 like what digmaster said for Cezier or who ever.

How Ironic, it says "Number of the Beast" in the bible. I wasn't even referring to Iron Maiden.

I don't read the Bible, however, I had a religious friend tell me about it.
