Author Topic: I need help before i buy my graphics card D:  (Read 2984 times)

I'm finally about to buy the Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT To replace my old crappy 5200FX which is really starting to choke on the newer games (Such as Far Cry)
Can somebody tell me the requirements for the 8600 GT? and if anybody knows a graphics card that is better and under the price of £50 (It's my budget), can you tell me which?

The 8600 uses PCI-E. What type of connectors does your motherboard have?

I can't find anything at such a small budget(~$78) that is worth it. I always recommend EVGA, they have high quality chips and an excellent warranty.

*edit*

Actually, this is a dollar or two above your budget and better than the GT. I don't know where you plan to buy it from so I don't know the prices there. You probably can't get the rebate for the ones on Newegg as it's usually USA/Canada only.

I believe my computer uses PCI-E after the last time i checked (When i upgraded RAM to 1GB

And thanks for suggesting me that, does to the GTS have bigger Video memory aswell?
Not just to make games look better, but i'd like them to run better aswell.

Well, they both have the same type and amount of RAM(256MB DDR3), but the GTS has higher clockings on the memory and other parts. It will run games better.

more gpu ram = higher screen res

I myself wouldn't get one under 512 :3

The 512MB 8500 is a stuff card; lower quality parts and DDR2. You only need a high amount of RAM for higher resolutions, at 1680x1050 and above. I doubt he has a entrepreneur ed out monitor if his computer isn't good.

get the radeon 4850 or 4870!

Aphtonites, before you go and upgrade your graphics card, tell us what processor you have. We need to know this because if your processor is somewhat slow then it would be a waste of money to buy a powerful graphics card because the slow processor would just bottleneck your system.

<---

I've got an 7800gx and it works just fine with Far Cry and others.

You also need to check if your case is big enough. I don't think the 8600 is a big card though.

my CPU is only running at 2.4GHZ and I have a 7600GT is anything bottlenecking here? D:

No. Unless its a dual core cpu, because then your video card would be considered massive crap when compared to the rest of your system.
