well, i have the old server scipts but distributing would get me banned most likley

Badspot removed all possibility of it from the EXE. Now you might be able to do it if you had a really old version, like Ver.3

Does anyone know where version 3 can be downloaded?

aw what a shame, from the site i got the impression it was client/server like blockland, guess i took the following quote too literally.

"The game is designed to be played online with up to 30 other players at once. Character information is stored on the server you connect to and is not transferred between servers. The idea is to build up a community around a particular server."

Yeah, at one time others could host servers.

I wish we could have that back <8F

Badspot should release v3 again but with no updates.

Why not v18 with client host capabilities?
Distributing hosting scripts wouldn't get you banned, because as Mocheeze said, even with them, you would still be unable to host. Plus, the GUIs are in dso format, and the GUI editor was taken out.

Putting V3 up for download probably not get you banned either. I dobut modding it would get you in much trouble either.

Port all the interiors and code from the games into Blockland, and you might have some problems.

Honestly, I'm divided. I like how everyone could host their own server, but I like the organization and how well run Badspots server is.

As I recall, public server hosting was taken out because all anyone did was spawn tons of gold and screw around, no one actually explored or anything. You could just F8 everywhere. It broke the concept of the game.

could we not give it one for try or simply ban people from others peoples server if they mucked around?

The people screwing around were admins, if you banned them from their own server would be pointless.

I've been working on a map in v3, but I screwed up the bed triggers, and they don't work anymore. :(

I think I had a bunch of scripts from Blockland when I added the world editor from it, and the file size is 75MB+. I wish I could go find a clean version of v3, now that I know what I'm doing, I could probably make it a lot better, and I'd probably port in a different world editor to. (Found a really nice one, Its just GUI changes, buts its easier to browse and whatnot).

If I can find the screenshots of the "Floating DM City" I was working on, maybe I'll post some. I think it crashed because I clicked the transform button on a non-existant interior though, and I lost all the data.

EDIT: Yep, I lost it. The theory was, you started with crappy equipment. There were sewers you could team up with people and explore for cash. There were two halves to the floating city, a broken, industrial side, and the commercial side. You fought in the broken one. They were connected by bridges. If someone spawned tons of cash, it would be ok, because they loose most of it quickly. And you could move between areas in the city by the sewers. Horses were fun, you could accidently drive them off the edge from going to fast and fall into the clouds (transparent cloud water texture thingy set as lava).

EDIT2:

The end of mods? There never was a beginning of mods for AoT.

This isn't an instant play sort of game, it's based on a persistant world which requires a server that is constantly up.  Most people don't have the means or motivation to do this.

When people host their own servers, what they do is:
-Give out tons of cash/free equipment
-Cheat to find all the secrets
-Use the world editor to mess with people

All of those things are lame and cheapen the whole experience.  It's much better if everyone just plays on the official server.

Clicking the link will hyperlink you to the thread, and yes, I'd say Badspot is probably correct. If you are going to host a server, you might as well make everything free. And while you are at it, boot up some shoot-through-wall and player-name spike hacks.
