Author Topic: Yuy new computer coming (UPDATE PROBLEM ON PAGE 4)  (Read 4956 times)

First off, I'm going to email my dad at work to see if he has any spare memory for the time being.

Otherwise, I'm buying this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148206
With the $35 rebate.

EDIT:
fffffuuuuuu-

rebate expires tomorrow :( no time to mail it.
Learn to read. You have to buy it by tomorrow; the rebate must be post marked by 1/18/09.

If you get Vista 64bit I'd really get 4GB. If you get 4GB don't just get two of those; you can only do a rebate on one of them.

Geil: No rebates for the kind of RAM I'm selecting
Corsair: Rebates expire yesterday. They usually change/swap around rebates when one expires.
OCZ: Cheapest after rebate, and it started today. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227289
Patriot: Cheapest after rebate; ends 12/31 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220314
G. Skill: No rebate, but only $55 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220314

There...4GB of RAM for $37. No mail-in-rebates. No gimmicks. Just a couple of days wait.

I should learn more brands that are good.

Also stop trying to get the best parts he can use since he wants it cheap.

Whatever, just got a 2GB Corsair memory stick. 800 MHz, and it fits. Closed up computer, plugged in everything and such. Tried it out, and it didn't boot. Not even from a Windows CD. No beep either.
Read the manual of the motherboard, and it turns out we have to have 2 memory modules for it to work.

Means I gotta go chip out another 2 GB and dig in my savings :c
Ah well, 64-bit Vista here I come!

Know what you're doing before you turn it on!

>:o

Make sure you put them in the correct slots as well.

Of course. I put the RAM in the DDR_0 slot indicated on the motherboard.

There's DDR_0, 1, 2 and 3.

Let there be a bump, and so there was.

New problem: Everything works fine, one problem.

Sometimes I see display, sometimes I don't. The computer boots up fine and everything (I know because mouse and keyboard are on).

Why can't I see anything on the display? I'm using a VGA monitor on a Geforce 9800 GT with a DVI-VGA converter thingy and I've tried both monitor ports.

EDIT: Fixed problem.

Because I didn't format the hard drive, the 8600 GT driver was conflicting with the 9800 GT. I just put in the 8600 GT and I'm already reinstalling Windows XP. I'll swap the 9800 GT in later afterwards.

EDIT: FFFUUUUUUUUCK

Cannot copy file: p3.sys
Screw XP I'm going Vista.
