Author Topic: Train mod [EXPLAINED]  (Read 8434 times)

I have had some ideas on how the train mod should work.

There should be a special brick which would be called a train brick or whatever. It will be a normal train track like the road baseplates :). This would be used to signal gates at a level crossing, or maybe even turn the train at a turn in some manner.

It could also be used for signaling, but that's a harder unnecessary part.

I believe it would combine onVehicleTouch, and Jookia's RPG mod(like the bank bricks or something). It would also have to know what vehicle(the train vehicle or whatever...) would be going over it for some events to take place, which of course is a datablock :)

*With the RPG mod I am referring that you can stand on that brick and something will happen.
Suggested train...
EMD DE30AC(Diesel : Electric : 3000 horsepower : Alternating Current traction)
EMD DM30AC(Dual : Mode : 3000 horsepower : Alternating Current traction)

These trains are owned by the Long Island Rail Road, New York, and were build by the General Motors Electro-Motive Division(EMD) in 1997-1998.

I suggest the EMD DE30AC. Not just my favorite train, I think it's the best commuter train for the job. It is a diesel train that has a twin sister, the DM30AC. The only difference is that the DM30AC can run off of the third rail, which is present when closer to New York City. The good thing to this is that DM30AC's can go into Penn Station, NY, but the DE's can't due to ventilation concerns.

The only external difference between the two is that the DM has a white box and a third rail shoe(to catch the third rail obviously). They also vary in train numbers...

#400-422: DE30AC
#500-522: DM30AC (#503 was destroyed when it hit a shopping cart and caught on fire*) (lol DAMN KIDS)

*The train hit the shopping cart which hit the third rail, shorting it out than causing the engine to go in flames. And these things are loaded with fuel?!

So in conclusion to all this useless stuff^

I will hope fully make a non-stuffty model...

Some issues...
  • A player can block a train and the train might bounce in any direction but straight(and possibly fly away spinning if it's a vehicle hitting the train).
  • If there is no way to tell what vehicle is on the tracks it poses a problem.
  • What if only an admin should be able to engineer? If there's no way to stop them than we've got a problem.
  • What should the spawn be like? It won't work right on the tracks...
  • How would a train be hooked to cars?
  • What about a horn? Sounds are very hard to hear even so close...
  • Entering the train? How would a player enter the train from the side?
  • How can coupling/uncoupling be possible?
  • Instead of drawing the whole train in one, why not find a way to hook up the stuff?

packer made one

he means a WORKING train. packer's needed all sorts of other crap to make it work.

This would be very neat to have.  I think that it would be a neat idea to have a door for the trains that the player could enter instead of just jetting in and mounting to the seat to make it more realistic.  Not sure if that could be done, but it would be nice though.

Well... do we want a train or a door that will confuse people?

It would open only at stops, I don't think that's very confusing : \
Of course you would have to worry about people standing in the door way I guess.

But they should be fixed seats and people shouldn't be moving with the train, literally.

Let's not get complicated and screw with the engine by allowing people to walk in the train.

I agree that there should be fixed seats, it just seems to me that the whole cosmetic appeal of trains would be ruined by people entering in from the top.  (what would happen if people were entering from a substation with a low roof?)  Perhaps it could be made where the user walks into the door and they are automatically placed in a remaining seat, although that doesn't solve the problem of how they would get out without jumping.

Well, currently, all vehicles are entered from the top, so I don't think it's possible.

Added this to the problems list.

So in conclusion to all this useless stuff^, I will probably buy MilkShape and make my first model. I hope it's not stuff.
Don't buy milkshape, get Google Sketchup....it's free :/

And what will convert it?

And what will convert it?
Wedge posted a link to a plug-in for blender that accepts sketch up files.
