i know what the placebo effect is. i was using it as a comparison
basically if you tell your mind something its going to be tricked into it.
that would be like, the "lying to yourself effect"
the placebo effect is when you
genuinely believe something will happen as a consequence of something else (pretty much exclusively because someone else has told you it will), for instance when someone tells you that they're giving you pain medication but it's actually sugar pills and it stops the pain anyway
or like if someone told you that wearing a dress would make you wanna be a girl (and you believed them for some reason)
doing things because other people are doing them does not fit that bill, nor does lying to yourself until the thing you're lying to yourself about becomes true
(not to imply that either of those things are happening)
