Author Topic: Blockland offline mode  (Read 6883 times)

I have blockland installed on a computer at my grandma's computer which is shared between me and my cousins.  The problem is that since they are all young I would like to keep them from playing online, however I am not always around to make sure that they stay offline.

My question is would it be possible to implement some sort of password system that keeps them from accessing the online portion of the game?
My suggestion is a log-in panel that restricts access to muilt-player for people who share computers with younger siblings.

Just block blockland with a firewall.

I don't want to have to unblock it every time I want to play.  Although I guess that would work fine when I'm away for a while.  I was kind of thinking of something that I could log in into to play online and then when I wanted to leave the room and do something else I could just log out without having to worry about them getting online.

Delete key.dat when you're done playing, then they can't use it. (Demo Mode)

You will have to re-enter your key every time, though.

I don't really have an issue with them playing the game, although they rarely use more than 150 bricks.  Maybe it could be set up where when you clicked "Join Game" it bring up a dialog box that would allow you to adjust the password options or enter in the password in order join a game.  Is any of this possible or without having to resort to the two options already mentioned?

instead of doing that, how about he copies it and puts it on a hidden folder so that he wont have to re-enter it everytime?

go in f10 and delete the Join Server button

click "key" at the bottom and type the wrong key in and you should only be able to play demo until you type your key again

I could do that but it would be very aggravating to put it back every time I wanted to play online.

I still want them to be able to play the full game; I just want to restrict their ability to join other servers.

Anyways I think I'll just do what laremere said for now, thanks for your help.

What part of online is it you dont want them using?

How young are they? Do they know how to enable the internet? You could just shut down the internet connection.

Disconnect the internet.

Well the youngest are 6 and 10.  I'm pretty sure they couldn't enable the internet but no one else in the house would be able to figure out how to turn it back on if I disabled it.
Disconnect the internet.
I just want to block them from joining servers in blockland when I'm not there to watch them, if I did that they wouldn't be able to do anything else that doesn't need supervision.

Just the join server function.

I think I will just remove the Join Server button like Peaceful War said and, just keep a non-edited version on my zip-drive.  I appreciate everybody's help though.
