I would like to think someone who mixes it up then offers it to the challenger so that he has no idea in which the puzzle can be solved save for on the spot.

Dude. Solving it has nothing to do with how it's scrambled. It's being able to recognize how to to fix it. I can tell by what you're saying that you have never solved one.
