Author Topic: Games in School- for a report.  (Read 2124 times)

I'm doing an English report on What purpose should gaming have in school, namely, to make learning more fun an in-depth.

My question to you, Blockland peoples:

Should video games be used in school to grab the attention of students and give an interesting and fun take on learning?

I'm thinking "yes", and to give examples, could Civilization be used to teach students how empires ae ran, and show a more personal look at history?
Or, could RPGs, like Final Fantasy, be used to show how to write compellling Narritives, and give examples of memorable characters?

Please reply!
This report is worth a lot of points, and I really want to write it well.

I think documentaries are much better. I'm about 10 times more likely to remember something if I saw a video of it than I am if I wrote down notes of it.

I don't think games would be too effective unless teaching something small, or something about how games work themselves.

Oh yes, RPGs. Make the guy look super cool and be a complete moron and I'm sure millions will love it.
As for girls, huge breasts and intelligence that puts Einstein to shame. Minimal clothing and oversized weapons are optional.

I myself disagree with the above statement, however that's what people want.

Nooooo way. When we play games, all we want to do it have all the action or think about strategies. When adding things like math to the game, just for learning, it ruins the purpose of game. Solely for entertainment, and a nice story line. All though some are educational in little ways, like Spore shows evolution, games used solely for education is a bad idea.

All the games so far of civilization, either:
a. Make you not care, and want to fight enemies.
b. or are historically inaccurate.

I say just teach, not ruin games.

Not edutainment- picking apart games to show relevant details.

Ahem... I know this is off-topic and all, but isn't your avatar a bit... i mean, ALOT like mine?

Do it on Blockland. It teaches architecture n stuff, and could probably be used to do something of the sort.

Once we get brick physics, maybe.

I don't think civilization is very accurate. Nor games like it. RPGs.....well maybe you should go write a story instead of just playing one if you REALLY want to learn narratives. :/

Anywho.......:cookie:.......

And I don't think making a bunch of bricks go BOOM in a creative way is "physics" :P

BOOM = Attention.
Then, the teach explains the physics behind the boom.
(ie why the bricks do this, and what would be needed for the explosion. This is middle school science we're talking.)

No.

There are other, much better ways to grab the attention of kids and it's not by turning them into zombies.

There is something sort of like this at my old middle school. It had all these games that tought you vocabulary that teachers put into it....

Final Fantasy for art? "How NOT  to draw males"
