When getting into a high school, what year of grades do they look at?

More specifically, I mean do they look at 8th grade grades, 7th grade grades, or what?

If it helps: I have midterm and final exams every year.
I also am in a private school and planning to go to a private high school.

I personally heard that they look at 7th grade midterms, but I think it's pretty stupid since people could be having a difficult time with the things they learned and they could've actually gotten better in 8th grade.

I know when i went to my old HS they looked at all of my grades to find the averages

My counselors don't know stuff. My counselor for last year would be fine, but this year we have the drama teacher which no one really likes so we aren't comfortable with even talking to her.
