Author Topic: I Can't (Not Allowed to) Host/Forward Ports :(  (Read 2285 times)

My dad says that i can't forward my ports because he said that it's like letting people into my computer
and doesn't want to lower or open the firewall

Is there any other way to host a game online?

No. Your dads wrong too.

Simply playing the game of this nature is a security risk in itself when you think about it. So if your parents let you play online games, then they are risking your security just as much. The fact that they won't let you forward ports just means that they are paranoid, and are guilty of one or all of the following:

A: Don't know anything about computer security
B: Are just too stupid and want to yell at you for stupid things and make you feel bad.
C: Are just out to get you and will randomly make something you want to do the thing you are not allowed to do.

Hell, if they let you go to forums like these ones, I don't see why they are worrying about forwarding ports. No, I'm not saying this is a bad place, but usually cautious parents won't even let their kids go on forums, especially when the moderation is limited and where rather crude posts are tolerated. Hell, they probably shouldn't even let you on the internet at all.. Its a bad bad place. Just go watch Disney channel, it's safer.

Sounds to me like your parents are saying that it is bad for your computer, just because they don't know anything on the subject. It is perfectly safe to port forward.
You have more chance of getting a virus/spyware/adware/malware etc just from browsing the internet.
What port forwarding does, is it just opens those ports on your computer so other computers can 'latch' onto your computer and play with you on your server.

Sounds to me your parents care about your safety.
Good for you.
You can add exceptions through firewall but that won't fix your port problem.

If your router is right next to your computer you could try plugging the internet cable directly into your computer and bypass the router, but I believe that leaves your IP directly open to attack so I would only do it when I want to host for blockland.

Other than that you are out of luck, maybe buy a book on routers and show them the beneficiaries of port forwarding, or wait a few years until you're old enough to do this thing on your own.

God, did all these parents take the same Tech class or fail it?

Port forwarding does NOT open your computer to viruses and attackers! It only allows people playing Blockland to connect to you, and you can't hack or send viruses over Blockland unless you are stupid enough to download a random exe from someone.
Hopefully, you aren't.

Well... Thanks for your help everyone!

I just hope I can convince my dad to let me forward my ports.

Don't tell him the part about everyone on the internet calling him a handicap.

Ok

Portforwarding (like in above posts) is when you open your ports to let people come to your server.it does NOT open your computer to hackers,viruses,trojans---idk about trojans.....---and other stuff that can mess up your computer. It just lets people in the servers you host.

and if he is worried just change it so your computer has more protecion through firewall just a little bit
