I'm sure he means when everyone realizes the world hasn't really ended, how much of a celebration that new year would be. Think more before speaking.
Yea, because the new years parties would be more awesome if the world didn't end

Just to quote a few key parts...

Quote
In the context of this tradition then, the Winter Solstice on December 21 was celebrated as the Sun’s birthday. It is the longest night of the year and therefore the shortest day of the year. It represented the ultimate power of the dark forces of Nature: the long winter night when things appeared to be dead and still. And out of the depths of this longest night the new Sun was born. From this point on, the power of the light grows in strength and the days slowly begin to grow longer

The auspicious year of 2012 indicated in the long count calendar illuminates the fact that the Precessional movement of the Winter Solstice Sun will gradually bring its position into alignment with the very center of our Galaxy. For the Maya, this is like the last stroke of Midnight on New Year’s Eve, only in 2012 the New Year is the New Galactic Year of 26,000 solar years. The Galactic Clock will be at zero point and a New Precessional Cycle will begin.

Most of you really seem to have no idea about the Mayan calendar.

Also, most of you who jumped at the chance to reference Y2K are incredibly stupid. Y2K had nothing to do with the world ending.

In the year 2012 I'm gonna listen to Metallicas "The Day That Never Comes" alot :D.

2012 is the end of the world! In December so we have 11 months to live then
How does that work? It's 2009, remember?

Just grab an auto shotgun, a couple of pipe bombs and run to the top of mercy hospital!

People kept saying when 2000 came computers would stop working. Its now 2009 and look were we are now.

Hasn't the world ended enough times already?

The world may not "end" in 2012 but I do believe its going to be a major tipping point for life as everyone knows it. If you think about it, the problems we're facing are irrefutably mounting up:

deforestation, global warming, extreme weather, food and water shortage, overpopulation, increasing interpersonal tension (middle-east, not drama forum), sea levels rising, animal extinction, ozone layer deterioration, economic breakdown, ocean pollution (and fish dying as a result)

If you think any of those is going to just "go away" in the near future you should probably think again. Those problems are mounting up and they're going to kick us in the ass at some point.

I have a dollar JUST to buy that song from iTunes. JUST for 2012.

I'm a survivor from the future. 2013 here. What's going on in year 2009?

You should already know that.

Actually you announcing that would already change the course of events of your future, and you will end up not existing.

The Universe's way of saying "Get out".

Totally forgot the events. loving ti-

The earth has about 5 billion years left.
And the human race probably has 2.5 billion. Also, I agree. Even though everyone around me is giving into this bullstuff, saying they're going to rob banks and stores and stuff, all this "we're dieing in 2012" is bullstuff.

Human Race will go on forever, Earth will not

Wusn't I funneh thar?
