Author Topic: Revision to Badspot's Dual Key Usage Policy  (Read 833 times)

I've found that Badspot's policy for key deletion is to strict, specifically the use of a single key from multiple IPs. It's unfair to assume that someone is sharring a key because they used it at separate times in different places. There are plenty of explanations for such an occurence. For example: I've played Blockland on my friend's computer so I could show him how epic it was; Some people have laptops that they take to other places; Some people move when they go to college and then play Blockland on their old comp when they come home for the holidays. Just many different circumstances. More importantly, buying Blockland is no big deal since it's only a one time fee of $20. An example of someone who was victim to this circumstance is Beachbum. He used to live in the UK but moved to the US recently, so he hops around from IP to IP. I understand that he's not on the best of terms with Ephi or Badspot, but he hasn't done anything wrong interms of Blockland (not including the forums).

Feel free to give your input on this situation.

Well, I think they only really do something if an ID is being used at two different Ip addresses at the same time but I amnot sure.

wait..... is this a suggestion to revise dual key deletion? if so, i agree... it's so long, it's kinda hard to tell if it belongs in suggestions and requests.

Badspot usually only deactivates if it is obvious. Example:

This key was abusively shared.

Here's an excerpt from the master server log

It goes on like that for about 600 entries.  Note: 544 is the bl_id, the in-game number is off by one from the internal database.

I've gone to plenty of friends' houses, and never have had a problem.
I think it's mainly if there's a patterned constant change with the IP, as with the name.

An example of someone who was victim to this circumstance is Beachbum.

Beachbum is a dumbass who told his key to someone in an attempt to help them make a keygen for Blockland. Surprise surprise the guy just stole his ID and started hosting servers using it - so it was disabled. Maybe you should look into these sorts of things before making stupid posts like this.

I play Blockland at both of my houses, have played it at friends houses, and I know my IP has changed at least a few times at both of my houses.  It has nothing to do with the amount of IP changes.

I also know of other Blockland players who play it at various IPs.

Thats one of the telltale signs that people are sharing keys...
