So did some BrickForge guy take a look at some LEGO prototypes and go "Hey, that's a good idea..."?

I really just want it cleared up.

I'm very sure that neither company got the idea from the other.

Made a plasma rifle thing and decal'd the top and bottom.
Also changed a shirt decal on one of my minifigs.

Been bummed out today, so I broke out the legos and upgraded my space station pictured on pg. 110. I added some solar panels for alternative fuel generation and a secondary docking pylon mainly for ship repair and maintenance.

I also found an online schematic on how to make Serenity from the Firefly series. Shiny! Granted, I didn't have all the pieces they asked for, but I managed to work it out.
