...you want to fill me in on that difference?
You missed the edit.

jesus loving in heaven to the sound of thirty wife-maids, no. I really love MC Escher and respect his work, but there is a limit to what I can and can't do, and that's basically "impossible".

This was possible in LEGO Avengers or whatever it was. They had a Velociraptor you could play as.

Can you please explain to me why it's such a good feature? I don't understand at all, and I want to figure out why this excites people. To me, it's just another character model.
You get to play as a dinosaur, do we really need to explain why we would be excited?

forget me.

That said, I've known about Andrew Lipson for a while. He's got the skills I wish I could have. I'm only really got at placing tiles on a plane. I'm not very good with depth when recreating art in LEGO.

Well...yeah. Again, to me it's only a different character model, and using some simple tools you can give any character any power in a TT Game. For example, in TLMVG I made the Octan Swordfish playable, and then I gave it a laser and made it fly.

You can make anything seem pointless with this mindset, what are you trying to say?

I don't understand why having the ability to play as a certain type of character in a TT Game really matters for more than 5 minutes. At the end of the day, at least to me, it's all the same thing. They all move in similar ways, have similar speed, and each character will have at least one special ability that may or may not be shared with other characters.

I don't get how "playing as a dinosaur" is a fun concept in a TT Game. In Turok splitscreen, it was entertaining because it was hunter vs. prey. In a TT Game, I can't really see it being any more than just a simple model change with some abilities tied to the model that you can't access with other characters. The characters are more like tools than they are actual characters or entertaining.

I apologise if I'm sounding like a richard, but I really, honestly don't get it, hence why I have no interest in this LEGO game and will keep waiting for LEGO to announce one day that they're actually going to hire another developer to make a more interesting game.

you're fine

but I really, honestly don't get it,
i think being able to be a dinosaur really only makes people that like dinosaurs in general excited, others who don't have interest in them won't care too much.

I still study Dinosaurs, Ancient Egypt and Greek Mythology in my spare time. I find them interesting. I just don't see why, in a game where characters are basically:

A) A mesh + collision
B) A config file that lists what abilities they have and their movement speeds etc
C) Another config file that allows you to scale parts of their body and add extra pieces

...it's such a big deal over what characters you get to play. Maybe if you made the dinosaurs flying and gave them lazer eyes I would be entertained. But I can't see them adding anything to gameplay that hasn't already been done before in a TT game.

OK so you think that they are not really special, just like, a reskin of something done before, without much change?

Bingo.

To be fair, I do mod the games. That might suck my entertainment out of the default, vanilla game. But I really don't see why TT Games likes to advertise their huge character lists when really they're all just reskins with slightly different configuration files (with a few exceptions).
