I'm sending my PS3 to Sony support where they'll get me a new one. But will this be a 20gig or an 80gig model?

No, they are just going to upgrade your PS3 for no reason at all. They are more likely to downgrade then upgrade it.

No, that's generally what people do. What profit is there to be made by upgrading someone's 20gb to something bigger for free?

They scrap it and give you a new one. That is all they do. Maybe take the memory out for you to get back but that is about it.

Then they'll give you a harddrive equal to what you already had. Again, no profit to be made off of giving pity to someone and upgrading it for free.

More than likely, as Omega said, they'll restore your saves or whatever, so if you want to hold on to those might as well send it in. If not, you could still send it in, get a new hdd, go out and buy a bigger one (if you really need it), then vendor your harddrive Sony sent you.
