Well that's the problem. i can't find the file that the .obj is in after i export it. i find the right filepath but it's empty. or do i export it to my sculptris file

Usually it exports in the same location as the .blend is saved in, i think.

well yeah. it opens that file, and i export it, but when i try to open it using sculptris it disappears.

I'm pretty sure that in some versions of blender 2.5x have a broken obj exporter. If you have the newest version then I don't know what the problem is.
