Is the door closed? they don't open by themselves, You have to use the door knob

server normally take along time to load if you dont have the addons the host has enabled

You are joining crappy servers. Join servers that only have add ons that are necisarry for the theme of the server.

Also, make sure you are not loading a map you don't have. Some maps take a half hour to load by themselves if you don't have them.
