Author Topic: Arcade Machine: Yay or Nay?  (Read 3965 times)

Well, I'm getting a new room this summer and I'm going to be getting some kind of Arcade machine, like a Pinball Machine or a Ski Ball lane. But I don't know what I should get :o I've looked at a few, which actually look pretty cool, but I still can't choose.

Arcade Legends 2 Machine
Bulls-Eye Ball SkiBall

Simpson's Pinball Machine
Ms.Pacman/Pacman/Galaga Tabletop

:D

First one looks the best :d

That sounds really boring...playing the same couple of games over and over again.

A better choice would be to spend the money on a decent TV or large monitor and buy some old consoles like N64, PS1, etc and some old games. Usually they are very cheap, but the selection is huge.

Or you could even use an emulator on your computer and play your old games on there.

Or if you have a big wall, buy a projector or something (or even if you don't, a roof-mounted pull-down projector screen) because those are just great for watching movies or even playing games. Although the wii sensorbar doesn't really work too great...

Projector is a good idea too, especially if you want to invite friends over or play with siblings with splitscreen games.

The only caveat is that the contrast levels are pretty poor, projectors are expensive and you ideally want to paint the wall with a special paint designed for projection (or use a pull down screen).

Projectors are probably cheaper than all of those arcade machines he listed above, I've got a projector I swiped for just under £250 on ebay and it has killer contrast.

My school has a projector instead of TVs and they turned out well. Only bitch is that they can be tilted accedently and it is a bitch to level it off.

Ephi, I'd love to get HotD4, but I'm not rich like you, mate :P Unless your willing to buy me one...*wink wink nudge nudge*

Personally, I want the first one because I can get 4 more expansion packs, some having 50 games a pack.

My school use projecters for most computers, and they do the same thing :(

How the forget do you manage that?

My old school used to use "smartboards" which were touch-sensitive screens that were projected onto, so you could basically interact with the computer on the board, and even draw on top of it using special pens and stuff.

(That is not my old school)

My computer apps teacher uses that. My drafting teacher is setting his up. It can not erase for some reason.

Aye, it could well be cheaper. Depends on the resolution he gets. Decent projectors can cost upwards of $1000 though. The contrast issue is kinda hard to solve with projectors because they can't project darkness, only light (obvious, I know) so all the darker areas of the screen appear brighter than originally intended.

Now...if they make it so that the projector can alter the amount of light that reaches the canvas per pixel just as it does the color of the light...then it can compete.

It all boils down to a matter of preference. I suppose if he wants to play arcade games the IQ doesn't matter that much.
