Author Topic: Why worship god, when...  (Read 25184 times)

unlike most things in the bible where god one day, had changed his mind for no apparent reason and stated new creed;
things like multiple wives, revenge (in name of god), stoning gay people, and converting by force have not been reversed yet.
yet no Christians truly follow that word of god. therefore all Christians are sinners and will burn.

I have no proof of evolution or anything including The begining of man so far.

You should read up on your Darwin.

Ever heard of Jesus?

Ever heard of Jesus?
Jesus was a monday. Lynch that boy, hang em from the tallest tree!

At the least he was a crusty Arab, so he was obviously a radical Islamo-terrorist.

You can worship the sun?

Honestly, I can't see how some people think "God" will save them and "Jesus" is the almighty lord. I don't mean to offend any believers here, and there is a lot of faith required to actually believe in it, but it's all science at the end of the day.

A) You can't see them, hear them, or feel them.

B) Science proves that there is no possible way of giant people floating in the clouds.

C) How the hell is some belief going to keep us all alive?

Now the sun, it's totally different.

A) You can see it's light, and you can feel the heat from it.

B) We already know that the sun quite clearly exists.

C) Without it, we might as well call our planet a chunk of ice.

George Carlin did a huge comedy part about warshipping the sun instead, it's pretty funny, but has a lot of meaning.

EDIT: Lol "Warship."

A) Its faith for a reason,
B)We don't believe that their is just some people floating in clouds, most Christians believe in evolution and are open to most scientific theories. But we believe that there was something behind creation.
C) I don't understand what you mean, keep us alive? No, Jesus had "guidelines" as to how to live your life. Maybe Jesus wasn't the son of God, maybe he was just a guy who had thought it would be pretty cool if everyone was nice to each other.

Also, I don't read the bible literally, I read it contextually, when I read the creation stories, I don't believe that their were 2 humans named adam and eve and everyone is a decedent  of those 2 people.  I don't believe that the earth was created in 7 days. But their are meanings to the stories.

And their are countless stars in the universe.

True, because all the Apollo missions and stuff would've killed all the people there if it really happened.

True that there are a lot of parables, from what has been explained to me those are mostly used in situation to describe what cannot be described. The vast majority of the bible is meant to be taken very literally.

Which is what I am told by my reformed Presbyterian Cristian friend, opinions vary based on denomination.

<-Agnostic, because i get really loving irritated that no one can agree and no one can prove that they are right.

True, its all opinion.

I'm atheist.

I used to be.

Heh, saw some stuff, not so much anymore.

The actual possibility of One strand of DNA being created is 1 to 10 to the 86th power that is: 1/100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

And, That is for only one strand.

Imagine a human that would be like 1 to 10 to the 34625683456827346587346531465 8163487561875461834568176345

Thus beliving science takes a lot more faith.

Another example is if you smash, Lets say a clock, or pocket-watch, and then shake it around in a bag for about 1000 billion years, Will you end up with a clock?
I think not.

According to what we know and theorize about the universe to date, there are an incomprehensible multitude of galaxies, each with billions of stars and with those stars, even more planets. Despite how unlikely it may appear, eventually all of the needed conditions will add up and life can exist somewhere in the universe.

It may seem "lucky" that we are to exist on one of the planets with life, but really it couldn't happen any other way. We exist because the planet provides a suitable environment for the species that inhabit it.

On the subject of the first forms of life, it is believed that a process known as Abiogenesis occurred. Essentially, under the correct conditions, inanimate matter comes together to form the building blocks of life. Once the basics are established, natural selection takes care of the rest.

The clock example is logically flawed. Perhaps a video is needed?

You can't use the Bible as proof of the existence of a god, just as I can't use The Origin of the Species to prove that Darwin was right. There is nothing in either book to suggest that any unworldly power was at work in their creation; any man could have written the words on those pages. Only through careful observation, experimentation and sound reasoning can an accurate conclusion be reached.

I personally feel there is just as much beauty, pride and satisfaction to had in knowing that our existence, the existence of everything we take for granted, is the result of an infinite number of coincidences.

Inventing a creator to answer our questions and abate our fears is a rather futile exercise as it merely raises more questions and doubts. Assuming there is a god, then we must ask where did he come from?, how did he begin to exist?, what is his purpose or motivation? Claiming that these are just things we aren't meant to know is counterproductive and evasive.

Math is funny when it comes to proving things because on a long enough timescale anything is possible.

Math is funny when it comes to proving things because on a long enough timescale anything is possible.

Math is funny because, even if we have the magic formula figured out we're always missing the numbers to solve everything. This is the case for extra terrestrial life and proving/disproving god amongst many other things

So we are in agreement, math is hilarious.
