I think in one of the really old ones they managed to kill/disable/whatever the creature and then climb in the robot to move around in.

Idea: Make it a player type that cannot hold weapons and maybe have extremely limited jets with a different emitter. (seen in some of the newer ones for about a second to get up a 1-brick height) No jump or walking up steps without the jet. Click to fire the death gun.

It has multiple functions, but that's probably what it's best for. It can also forcibly extract information from people, killing them in the process, and it can open coded doors, but it works best as a plunger.
