Seriously the game's pretty good, better then the whole ruby/sapphire fiasco anyways (those games weren't as magical as the originals for some reason).
Out of the 200ish pokemon in the pregame, most of them are the classics. Caves are crawling with those starfish geodudes and zubats and machop, it's great
Again, I think Pokemon is odd in the fact that it's a
very solid RPG-esque game without some of the RPG tie-downs, but it's scared away a more mature audience with the fact that it's acquired an extremely 'kiddish' aura.
I think I'm going to get a DSi when it comes out next month, simply because it's a very sleek, attractive system and has
genuinely fun games. It's great for road trips, and just killing time in general. Plus, all the new stuff is going to make it less a game system and more a tool, much like my Ipod touch, while it was a media player when I bought it, is now more of one of those hundred-billion-tool swiss army knives when it comes to me just whipping it out to do something on or with during the day.
But Nintendo is kind of stuck in a rut, because while they can pump out some sincerely good hardware and software, there is an extreme childish mentality about it. They cover everything in foam and then don't take it off to expand their range of interested consumers.
But that doesn't mean outside developers aren't willing to do that. The new Grand Theft Auto on the DS actually looks immensely fun, and while I won't be picking it up (parents) I'd enjoy having and probably play it.
The DS is great for the kids, and good on ya' towards Nintendo for making something that kids just eat up, and teens and adults should too. It's fun stuff. But, I feel because of that candy-coated mentality that Nintendo seems to have (but not specifically address) they've basically stuck their foot in their mouth.
That's my rant.
