Author Topic: Authentication failures with valid key  (Read 2144 times)

Blockland reports that my key is varyingly invalid and valid.

When I try to join a server, I'm given the following message:
Quote from: Blockland
The server has dropped the connection: Server could not verify your Blockland ID.

When attempting to launch a single player server or a LAN server, the game proceeds successfully. When attempting to launch an internet server, the game fails with the following message:
Quote from: Blockland
Server shut down - Authentication Failed.

I have tried re-entering the key, in case there was a key corruption issue; this met with no success. The key is valid - Blockland both accepts it and is able to download my Blockland name from the master server.

I have tried using alternative keys and this was successful, which leads me to believe that there is some kind of error with my key.

For reference, my key is #114 and my Blockland name is Sticky. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Well,if you got a firewall you can try turning it off and see what happens

It's not the firewall -- As I mentioned, I tried it with three other keys and every time I could connect fine, with no issues. It seems like this is an isolated issue with my key.

The other day,I tried naming myself "Cookie" I couldnt join any servers though. It said my BL ID couldn't be verified.I changed my name and it works just fine now though.

I've done some further testing and it appears that it's not an issue with my id, it's an issue with the name.

I swapped my name from Sticky out to something else and was able to successfully join a server, then when I swapped it back I was unable to join any servers.

I changed the name on one of my other keys to Sticky and then that account was unable to join servers, but when I changed the name on the alternative account back to the original it began working correctly.

I fail to see why there is any issue with my name -- the account has been working fine since version one up till version ten, and now with the advent of version eleven it has spontaneously stopped working.

As before, any help would be appreciated.

I'd also like to make a note of the fact that if you change your name and then change your blockland key the key authentication system will give you a message stating that the name change failed because the name was already in use.

I'm assuming this is because the system sends a name change request when it sends the authentication headers, so the name change for the first client worked but the second client will fail because client one already has that name.

i kept having this since my brother didnt have the same name now he's got the same name<same Blid>

What do you mean? Is this when you're both playing on a server online, or what?

My LAN name and my Net name are both set to "Sticky" with no inconsistencies, and I'm the only player that uses this key so I don't see how there could be any authentication failures.

Since it seems there's already a couple of similar topics on the forums I think I might link to them here:

Server could not verify your Blockland ID

As was mentioned in one of these threads, using one IP for authentication and then using another to connect to a server will result in an authentication failure. However, this still doesn't explain why I can play perfectly fine with any key unless the name on the key is set to "Sticky". I've tried this on four keys and it happens every time so the only logical conclusion I can come up with is that there's some issue with the name "Sticky". One of the threads was also about RTB, which I do not have installed.

I have yet to see any reason why this would fail. I tried using the tool Badspot suggested, but that really doesn't work in my circumstance.

I'm sure that Badspot will make fix for this.
But there are some main problems to this error, it might be due to:
-IP,Proxy sever, and internet acess (Most likely)
-Blockland Name
-Someone has your key (Unlikely to happend, but still possible)

OFF TOPIC: hey 1337, your icon is what my school serves EVERY SINGLE DAY
it sucks

Interesting. That does not seem like a valid reason for a key to stop working. I would suggest PMing Badspot and then changing your name until you get a reply.

As far as IP and Proxy goes, this option can be safely ruled out because I can successfully connect and play on servers when I am not using the name Sticky or I am using an alternate key.

As I mentioned before, blockland name seems to be the cause of the issue but I don't know why.

I am the only person with my key as far as I am aware, unless the key was somehow stole from me, which seems unlikely.

I'll keep my name as Sticky for the time being, simply for the sake of making sure it's available for my use. I'd prefer not to have to change to another name permanently because another player is using the name.

As to your suggestion of PMing Badspot, I think I might shoot him off an email; failing that, I'll just PM him, as you suggest.
