Author Topic: Return to Left 4 Block  (Read 5337 times)

I've started working on an alternative zombie project that will somewhat resemble L4B, but not so much focused on mimicking L4D as it is just having a really fun game-mode.

Things I have made:
  • Zombies
    • Zombies will be randomly dressed when they spawn.
    • Zombies will get a random teal skin tone when they spawn.
    • Zombies hunt Humans (Not just 'Survivors' or whatever)
    • Zombies will do a 'Zombie Smash' if there is any obstructions.
    • Zombies will jump if the target is higher than it.
    • Player Zombies
      • When a player zombie spawns, they will maintain their clothing but will have a random teal face and hand color.
      • Player zombies can preform a 'Zombie Spawn' to destroy bricks, too.
      • General
        • Any damage applied above the neckline of a player will have double damage and give off red blocks of pain. The neckline is dynamic per scale.

      Things I want to Add:
      • Increased Intelligence
      • The minigame will have a restart sequence when all humans are zombies/dead.

      Yay zombie players. I like how you're making it so they can destroy walls too.

      I'm pretty sure that was to stop the zombies from chasing people out of the mini-games.

      If you're using AI's they'll hit the head more often then not, that's hardly balancing the game at all.

      I'm not saying this mod will fail or anything, I'm actually looking forward to a simplified version of L4B... but actually think what you're doing through, honestly we don't need more unbalanced stuff in Blockland.

      Make sure they don't just run into undestroyable walls, and try some sort of pathfinding.

      Res, we could combine the efforts. I'm not that bad at coding but cannot model (or find a modeler) to save my life.

      Well, good luck on your project. The increased intelligence would be a nice thing to have, but don't get rid of their mobbing instinct - it's what makes the existing mod challenging.

      Also, assuming you were the one who hosted the Return to Left 4 Block server a few days (weeks?) ago, then I finally know who you are. Welcome back to the forums :o

      Well, a way to define specific player types as Survivors would be nice and allow for alternatives - the current one will turn everyone into the dead survivor player and then back to the normal one, but this won't work if you're planning a Survivor Horse (it morphs) or one with different attributes as it'll lose them if it is Downed and then saved.

          L4B already does everything you said except allow players to be zombies, and the head-double damage thing.

          Sorry, but this is another one of those things that people say might be good and I put them on a list on my refrigerator telling me not to take recommendations from these people.  This is fail.

          However, it would retain it's unfailness if you made pathfinding for the zombies.  That's all it would take.

          I don't mind collaborating, but I'm more of a scripter than a modeller.
