I like Spacebuild. It's even better with the latest Life Support. 

...Which is Life Support 3, but it has tons of models and you need tons of addons before you can host.

My favourite thing to do is to aeroform a planet so you can breathe in it. On a lava planet, you just need tons of air hydroponics (plants), and to water them (with gas systems 2 you can produce water from methane, which can be collected from everywhere). Then you might have to wait several hours, of course. XD

Use multipliers.

I like flying my atmosphere wrecker ship into the spawn planet(s) and making them uninhabitable in a matter of seconds.

It's the big flying pill.
