Author Topic: Reporting a build stealer...[RESOLVED]  (Read 6247 times)

This is not build theft, this is one kid who saw a build he liked and wanted to change the bits he didn't like. I haven't seen a single example where he claimed it as his own.

Seriously, if you don't like people using your builds then don't make them in the first place because people will always borrow your stuff. If I flipped out and cried every time someone borrowed some of my code and didn't credit me, The entire first page of Drama would be taken up by my crap. Stop being so pathetic.

This is a Sandbox Game. The whole idea of the client saving system is so people can go around saving and loading whatever they want wherever they want to. The fact that he's hosting your build doesn't mean its going to "dent your profit margins" or anything, you're just crying because you wanted all the e-appreciation. Maybe in your next build put a huge sign in the middle saying "BUILT BY DUCKMASTER MY BL ID IS XXXXX" to solve any confusions.
I suppose that summed it up basically.

Yup, I'll agree. Everything built on Blockland is owned by Badspot. If he didn't want people saving builds, he wouldn't have included an option in Multiplayer. Anything you build is 90% his. The last 10% is just basically how you rearranged his blocks. Technically by claiming full credit for a build is a form of theft from Badspot which makes you no better than those who borrowed your build to improve. If you took the time to actually go in, ask them what they had planned on doing with "your" build, you may have ended up liking the idea and keeping it as a permanent facet of your current build. But no, like most 5 year olds, you all go in and start whining. That's not how the real world works. Nothing is technically an inventor's forever. That's why we have so many generic brands around.

tl;dr version: Free society, free build, free download, keyword free. Live with it or simply leave.

ive met pyscho
in his firefighting server.

Thing is, I never gave anyone permission to use my build in their server.  IF Snip3r had talked to me and asked for permission, I would've given it to him and voila, problem solved.

Instead, he goes behind my back, and, even though he says he didn't, he claimed it as his own.

He also didn't give any credit, not anywhere in the server title, description, or build itself (any or all of those 3 would be fine).

Snip3r, next time, ask for permission first, don't claim it as your own, and give credit where credit is due, and this can all be avoided.

But definitely, I will be adding a sign saying it's built by me when I start working on it again.  That was my mistake.

If you want to use my build, ask first, and if I say no, tough luck for you.  Besides, why would you want to use it in the first place if it is WIP?

Thats my point. Your permission is not required because its not owned by you in the first place.

Do you not understand?

If you read terms and conditions and such, most of the stuff you think is 'yours' is actually not.
If builds were owned by the people who make them, then an admin could be charged once he clears it, that is, if the keys are even your property.

He was the one who made it, he should be credited for making it. The build may not be "his" but he did make it, so anyone using it should clarify that they did not make it themselves.

he should be credited for making it

why? your implying that the guy was taking credit for it, which he wasn't.
and even if he did, its non of duck's business anyway

It doesn't really matter who made it, unless you're trying to make yourself look better. That's for people who play this as a popularity contest, rather than gaining the building skill and simply having fun.

im going to take a save from every server and load them all into slate at once, and take credit for it all.
But you can get away with it.

HEY, I LOVE YOUR ACE'S GEMINI, REGULITH'S 2FORT, AND BONES4'S TITANIC. COOKIES4YOU

Stop building in public and you won't get your builds "stolen."

I was just giving a reason as to why he should be credited for it. You all said he shouldn't because it wasn't his. But people don't take credit to say it is theirs, people share their builds all the time. People like being given credit for creating something.

Thats my point. Your permission is not required because its not owned by you in the first place.

Obviously it's not directly mine.  There's no copyright laws, etc.  That's a given.  I totally understand.  However, you take it too far.  If someone works on something, they get credit for it.  Simple as that.

Sniper didn't work on it, didn't give me credit, and then claimed it as his own.

Bisjac, he WAS taking credit for it.

It's like how (since someone used a WoW example), you don't actually "own" your WoW character, but you do what you want with it and you are responsible for it.

So then, when people phish accounts, they are looked down upon and are banned.

In Ephi's and Chrono's scenario, I'm responsible for my character, I do what I want with it.  If someone phishes my account, it's totally okay because TECHNICALLY I don't ACTUALLY own it.  All that hard work I put into it is lost, and you think that's okay?

Technicalities aren't the issue here.  Of course Badspot actually made the game.  But what you create in it is up to you, and you get credit for it.

Stop being technical, and try to see the forest for the trees.

When someone 'takes' your build, you still have it, correct? There's the major difference.
