Author Topic: I hate the word "got."  (Read 4813 times)

This is a nation-wide thing, and is quite standard. Sometimes it's the only grammatical solution to a sentence, but the way most people use it drives me insane. It's still technically correct in these situations (sometimes), but it's quite annoying. Here are some examples with suggested corrections:

I've got (I have got) a bad feeling.      (I have a bad feeling)
He's got (he has got) a lot of them.      (He has a lot of them)
I('ve) got this, [let me handle it].     (I have this)
It's got (It has got) a problem.      (It has a problem)

Ghrgghag...

I'VE GOT

TWO TICKETS TO PARADISE

You got the rockets.

Strange peeve though.

I never realized that before...

"Got" doesn't sound right no matter how you use it. :o

It's mainly when used as posession.

You got have that right.

Wait, "You've got that right" works fine. "You have that right" sounds stupid.

There She is!
Final Step.

That's because "You've got that right" is mostly used as an expression. I'm talking about forming sentences.

I hate it too.

For school, if I ever have to write a paper, I make sure to never use the word "got".

got
    (v) : expressing obligation
"I can't go out tonight, I've got to study for my exams."
It's not an obligation to having that right...

I've got to go to the bathroom?

That is a correct sentence.

But still annoying to me. :-/

I hate the black slang. " I izz" "he izz"  stuff like that

My peeve is when people use the wrong variation of "your" in a sentence. They "your" use instead of "you're" when "you're" is needed.
