Grab your Tf2 guest pass while it's hot

Right click Team Fortress 2 and go to its Properties.

Click Set launch options

Type -window

It will launch in a window. Set your video properties. Unfortunately you may still experience issues if you swap to full screen mode here, but adjust the resoltuion of the window to something comfortable and play.

All Source games seem to use "hl.exe" to run. When my copies of Portal or TF2 stop working, it says that "hl2.exe has crashed" or similar.

That's why you won't find an seperat .exe in any game in the steamapps folder.

Each game has a separate copy of hl.exe. I'm assuming this is because of the engine modifications made to each for e.g. the portal collision not being necessary in TF2.
