Author Topic: Low flying plane in New York City causes big scare  (Read 3899 times)

I still don't know why they retired what is possibly the best plane ever created. :(
God, that thing is beastly!

It was Air Force One. :|

It's only Air Force One if the President is onboard.

But yes, a bit too much paranoia.

no, there are two sects of Air Force One.
Decoy Air Force One, and the one that has Obama on board.
If it was just one Air Force One, they wouldve let Obama fly today anyway, which would actually give him an excuse to overlook this event.
However, one cannot fly without the other; so thus he was not allowed to fly today.

Sgt Pepper had it right, you are mistaken. Any military plane that the president is on board automatically becomes airforce one. He could have hopped on a C-130 delivering supplies to troops stationed in Iceland, but the moment he steps on that plane it becomes air force one. Both of the official "air force one" planes that have the fancy paint jobs are real and fully functional (there is no decoy), so the president could have easily flown anywhere if he needed to.

If he didn't fly today, it's not because he wasn't allowed to, it's because he had no reason to fly.

-snip-
So even if he boards some random public airliner, it is determined as "Airforce One"

the airforce has come to kill us

Random corrections:
There are in fact only 2 air force one airplanes at the moment.
If the president gets on a civilian plane it is called Executive One. Any military plane he boards is called Air Force One. You can't really call a commercial airliner "air force one" because it's not a part of the air force.

EDIT: I edited my original post to reflect these.

Quote
Technically, Air Force One is the call sign of any Air Force aircraft carrying the President. In practice, however, Air Force One is used to refer to one of two highly customized Boeing 747-200B series aircraft, which carry the tail codes 28000 and 29000.

More about it (and source for that quote) here: http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/air_force_one/

Yeah I was there, people get freked out and they evacuated some buildings, but I wasn't scared because I saw two fighter jets that seemed to be escorting it, I don't understand why they didn't tell people about it tho...

and then look at what i said
no, there are two sects of Air Force One.

as in, he can fly on either one, but the one he isnt flying on is sent out as a decoy plane in case someone tries to shoot the president down.

You seem to be missing the fact that he doesn't have to ride on either, he can just get on any old plane.

Satelites do a better job these days, without risking men in the air. Nice plane too, been to see a few.

Least it wasn't a career ending photo op like so:

Screw AP. Enjoy the edit.
