I'd think that unleashing a troop of angry communists on innocent people is a bad thing too.

The inhabitants have been living in hell for ages; doing Braun's tasks will make the inhabitants remain there forever, while doing the Communist Invasion will spare them eternal hell.

Just load from a save right before you decide to die, and continue to play the game. And even if you let someone else die for you, the game still ends.
