Author Topic: The R4DS thread  (Read 1371 times)

Warning:
Because the DSi has the current DS flashcards blocked, most of the original flashcarts wont work on the DSi

What is a R4:
A R4 is a flashcard/flashcart which lets the user boot a custom firmware which lets people make third party games for the DS. There are many types of these but the R4 is the most common.

Will I get in trouble for talking about this?:
You should not, unless you state you are using/buying a r4ds for piracy.

How do I make homebrew stuff for the DS:
You could do it multiple ways, Palib is one of the most used ways.

Homebrew Sites:
http://www.ndshb.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_DS_Homebrew

Rules:
No links to games that are sold in stores
No console wars
Don't claim a homebrew thing was made by you unless it was

Discuss homebrews, themes for your R4, and any R4 related help.

Updating more as I wish.

Feel free to post ones that you like. I might add them if they are good.

If you didn't know, R4's are out of date and the company who first started making them is gone, most are fakes now aside from a few.
That's why I got an Acekard 2.

Oh I know, this is just a thread for it/homebrews for any R4 styled card.

Okay then. :D
One of my favorite homebrews,

Posting on my R4 right now,
Just got mine today.
Btw is it piracy if you get a rom of a game you have?

I am posting on my ds.

I heard that there was some sort of homebrew in the making to make the R4 work for the DSi, but that was even before it was out.

Yes it is, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I am posting on my ds.

We don't care, and I'm reporting you for spam.

I got an M3.
The Quake homebrew didn't work on my M3. :(

Try harder, it took me several tries to get it to work but it finally did. :D
Did you remember to patch the quake.nds file? I'm pretty sure you need to do that for R4s and M3s.
Are all the files in the right places? ex: the pak file/s are in a folder named ID1 in the root of your SD card?
Also, you may have to hold L while it is starting up (thats what I have to do).

You can get DSi compatible flashcarts, ex: Acekard 2i, EZ-Flash Vi.

Nick4t, you obviously suck at reading. I stated that "ORIGINAL FLASHCARTS" did not work. The DSi ones like the acekard 2i are the later types of flashcarts.

The type of memory card you use seems to be a factor as well. My brother has a Japenese imported card that came with his DS package off of ebay and it seems to be able to play games like Quake1, mine should be the exact same except it was manufactured in the US and it locks up on allot of games and applications. I use the exact same flashcart as him and my software is up to date.
