Author Topic: Long bike trip  (Read 2190 times)

It's a 21-mile bike trip from Floral Park to Babylon, NY(All in Long Island)

So... how hard might this trip be?

(mostly follows Hempstead Turnpike)

I'd like to drive there with my stuffty bike.

i biked 20 miles once. i had not biked much, or ran much. my legs were not in the best shape for the journey. it was hell.

be prepared to collapse at your destination if you are not in good shape. how often do you bike?

how often do you bike?

It would be every day by the day of embarking.

It would be every day by the day of embarking.
If you don't do this regularly you're gonna be really sore after the first time, and if you do it everyday you won't have time to rest.

Hmmmm.. I COULD JUST TAKE THE TRAIN! Well, anyway, thanks so far.

Also, how long might it be? I'm not sure of my average speed on a sidewalk.

If you can go faster than 10 mph, then it's < 2 hours.

Pfft. I had to bike 50 miles their and back.

"West babylon"

hehe.

I biked 20 miles once and I never had before. It's really easy if you change your gears properly, and not tire yourself out going up 30 degree inclines in first gear.

1. Get a good bike
2. Ride often
3. Bring a backpack full of food, water and some kind of communication device so you  could call your parents(?) or a friend to come pick you up if you can't make it.
4. Give yourself enough time, chances are it will take hours

2-3 hours is a good estimation.... if you're going fast!

I've hiked that far before, you will be fine on a bike.

I would say on a scale of 1/10 difficulty, maybe 7/10.

Of course that depends on weather, traffic, etc.

You live in NY.  NY= no hills.

The most I've gone in one day is about 15 miles.
