Its all personal preference. I find most people who can't explain the unexplainable they think its an act of god, when really they are just ignorant of the world around them. Its also gives people... (whats the word) I'll use the word hope, when you die you'll go somewhere if you been good, this makes death seem less bad in some peoples eyes.

If some one gave me a button that would cause the planet it explode, I would push it without hesitation. Imagine Earth from a Alien race point of view that never had religion, they'd think the concept was stupid and wonder why so many are following what a Book says. If you give some one a rifle and another person a Bible and made them fight to the death, a book won't save you, your god won't save you.

Everything in science that isn't Absolute (proven by numbers) is still Statistical, and that's why we can go by unproven theories with a certain degree of certainty. Mathematicians work around a logical approach to gaining theoretical numbers with a certain amount of precision to basically reinforce the certainty in many theories. Essentially, until hard data with minuscule precision error comes out to disprove the theory, the theory will continue to be accepted as the most likely scenario out of everything.

You can say scientists are smart gamblers for two reasons: They go by the most likely theory, and they keep themselves knowledgeable that it might also be wrong. Then they do an experiment which turns the world on it's ear, research the findings heavily, come up with a new better theory and win a Nobel. They're pretty hard working folk.

Yes. Scientists always must acknowledge that they might be wrong. Many scientists we now hold in high regard were scoffed at by the community because of their radical ideas.
