I cant wait for smp :D

I don't really know what to say about the inventory issue.

It is going to take a lot out of the game, especially for people who crash a lot

Aren't chests saved on the map? I'm not really sure why they would lose their items if you log out...

holy stuff.

i haven't played this game for like, what, two weeks? Now there's all this cool stuff.

jukebox ftw

I feel like I keep getting relatively defined environments in my world generations.

My main save at the moment has few trees, many of which are large. It's snowing, and all of the mountains are massive, round, and stretch above the clouds. It's also snowing. Mountain biome?

I generated one that's virtually flat. It was, however, a massive pain in the ass to move around because of all of the tiny trees that dot the area endlessly. Woodland?

Then the generic, random islands with ridiculously dramatic land formations that's riddled with messy caves. I don't know what the forget.

Anyway, do you guys typically build settlements inside caves and mountains, or do you build houses and expand them into fortresses?

Minecraft Alpha Server 0.1.0

I’ve added a new section to the download page, which includes some instructions on how to get it started.

As I’ve said before, almost everything except for the bare minimum is missing from this release, but I thought it was important to get something out before I leave for Berlin tomorrow.

To connect to a server, you need to know the IP to the server, and the server needs to accept incoming connections in the port. To find out your own external ip, you can use http://www.whatismyip.org/. If you configure the server to run on anything other than the default port, just add “:<port>” to the IP string.
For example, if your IP number is 10.0.0.1, and the port is 5000, the connect string would be “10.0.0.1:5000”.
If people can’t connect to your server, you might need to configure your router or firewall to accept incoming connections in the port (default 25565). How to do this varies per firewall and router, so check your manual.

You can copy and paste into the IP field in the client, by the way.

I have a stuff-ton of small-medium sized islands with a few large ones :O

Herp derp.

I always seem to try to start making regular buildings, but end up building it into a cave.

Sure, that would be cool :o

Opened the Minecraft server app. It stayed for 5 secs, then shut down.
