AUGH NO!!! NOT LEVELING!

Of all the things to add to the adventure update... you add leveling and experience. Good job, Notch.
because you know
adventure games never have leveling

Stealing stuff from Terraria just like you said you would?

lol@rage terraria is 2d minecraft.

but what do the levels DO? do they allow you to have special abilities, dig faster, hold more items, do more damage.
WHAT DO THEY ACCOMPLISH ?

I'm saying: of all the things you could pick from adventure games, you pick the one that encourages grinding the most.

Goblin villages? No. Cool weapons? Nope. Dragons? Hell no.
We want LEVELS!11

I only hope that they won't be like "get level 10 to be able to mine iron!"
And that they would be more like "you have used a bow 200 times, your range is now increased by 20%."

IMO if there are levels you should be able to choose practical abilities. see better in the darkness, hold your breath a bit longer, a little more health, better accuracy with the bow, quicker digging, more weapon damage, and so on. that would add a bit more strategy to the game and would allow you to create custom classes, if someone had higher health, more weapon damage, and more time underwater they could easily defeat someone who had quicker digging, a bit more health, see better in darkness, and quicker digging. though the person who had the better combat levels would rely on the miner for supplies. this would also give more depth to team work. currently mining groups are just a bunch of people with pickaxes, with this they could be a group of designated miners and guards, who can defend them from mobs that spawn in tunnles. it would also go good in pvp servers, better teamwork would all be achieved by having archers and swordsmen, archers would have better accuracy and the swordsmen would have better weapon damage.

both of those are terrible considering you need iron to survive and you can fire off three stacks of arrows in less than a minute.

also, isn't minecraft already grinding? considering you need to get supplies for your house. what difference does it make if you have some levels there too, you'll still be digging, you would just have perks. either way, the levels are gained through orbs, that means that there is no grinding, only exploring.

>implying you will be grinding to get to the levels

Odds are the orbs are scattered around the map, and when you pick them up you gain a level.

If it's like you use your bow 200 times, you'd have to hit something too.

You guys know this video? Well, I'm going to recreate the big portal terminal thing in Single Player, then use it in a minecraft server if people want me to.

If it's like you use your bow 200 times, you'd have to hit something too.
with the damage timeout you can fire 64 arrows into a creeper without killing it.

grinding is basically doing the same stuff over and over again.
for "popular" rpg games that are also extremely grindy, like runescape, this means you are killing the same things hundreds of times to get a certain amount of money or XP.

also, my bow example would only work if it got nerfed a bit (no more insane rapid-fire.)

with the damage timeout you can fire 64 arrows into a creeper without killing it.
Doesn't the arrows bounce away?

And i hope he makes it so that diffrent monsters drop diffrent amounts of experience orbs, and then you craft them into something that makes you level up.

Or he could make so that you need to make diffrent shapes of the orbs when crafting to get diffrent abilities.

the arrow bounces away but it registers as a hit, only no damage due to the time out. also, the orbs are gained through exploring. i hope leveling up gets monsters to drop more loot, i hate crafting arrows.

someone make a minecraft server so we can all go build something, i'm super bored.
