Are you using an outdated texture pack?

Replace the 1.8 minecraft.jar with the 1.7.3 mineccraft.jar in your .minecraft/bin folder.

I have the 1.8 minecraft.jar in my bin folder already. My server folder has never had a minecraft.jar in it before, it was an .exe, is that relevant?

You run the server jar like the exe. I suggest a new world so you can get the benefits. Also download the client jar and put it in your minecraft folder that has the game files.

Good luck they do 4 damage and teleport behind you.
Also they require 20 punches to kill.
Also also in the pre-release my 1.7 main world is totally forgeted up :c
