Since 1.8, my cousin hasn't been able to play Minecraft. The downloadable client has never worked on his family's computer, so he's been playing on the website. Now that doesn't even work. I was over at his house this weekend and spent a good hour trying to fix it. I made sure Java was updated, that all previous versions were removed, I even deleted the Minecraft folder to force it to reinstall. I went through everything that people were suggesting to people with similar problems on several different forums (including the Minecraft forum). I'm going over there again today and I'd like to fix it while I'm over there, it's his favorite game. Any idea what's wrong? I'm trying to get on the Minecraft forum to ask for help but for some reason none of my emails are working for the password recovery, and I've signed up. Had to migrate my account to the new Curse thing.

I had this same problem and I did fix it
What you do is this.
1. Right click on desktop
2. Properties
3. Go to the settings tab
4. Click advanced
5. In the window that pops up go to the troubleshoot tab
6. Pull the hardware acceleration slider until it says
7. apply
8. Profit!
