Tear apart some gravel, farm some chickens for feathers, make a bow and arrows and give em a taste of their own pointy projectiles. I usually take potshots at them if they can't find me or rapidly smack them up close if they can.

I never really use bows, I was never really decent with them. Taking down skeletons in the open is easy enough, w+a/d, They'll never hit you. It really gets nasty when you're in a cave with limited room and/or they're on a high-up ledge.

Minecraft 1.9 seems to be hogging my CPU. Is this happening to anyone else?
When I begin playing, by CPU use goes to about 90-100%.
When I exit Minecraft, the CPU usage goes down to a normal level of about 10-30%
