Do friendly mobs respawn? From the looks of it they only spawn when the chunk is generated.
So, if this is true, theoretically you could make a species go extinct in an area? I believe made chickens extinct for getting food so I had to repopulate them by bringing 2 from another area and keeping them in a locked up area until I had many.

My M11x runs Minecraft easily on Far with Optifine and on Fancy with the default textures, but if I load my regular texture pack it slows down like crazy.

Friendly mobs have a very small chance of respawning I believe. The best way to keep a good population is to breed them a lot.

Since I wasn't really descriptive of what I made yesterday, I'll repost it AND tell you what it is this time.

An Island Survival map in the sky. Twelve smallish islands, hardly any resources and metric forgettons of enemies.

The point is to see how long you can survive before you get viciously murdered or you fall off of the island.
