I would do that, except mining out space for all the cobblestone takes too long. I just place torches on the right side of the wall when going deeper into the cave so I know which way is in and out.

Yes, but see, that would confuse me in that pic. I'll see that I can walk ahead and there's a torch or turn right to the torch and I'm not sure which way.

I'd rather just have a dirt block path to my way home

What I mean is it would take too long to mine the stone block then place it back to make an entire trail. I spelunk huge caves.

I can't seem to download minecraft.exe. I'm at my dad's and want to play Minecraft but it won't download. :c
