my laptop runs minecraft at 30-70, the issue is the fact that your game can go down to literally 0 fps because your computer is forced to load blocks that you'll never see.
advanced openGL <--is what this is for
doesn't work for you? tough luck :/
dipping to 0 fps severely cripples gameplay IMO.

actually yeah, you are seeing all of those blocks, because of how trees textures are transparent and you can see blocks through them. and even on fast graphics you can see all of the other trees' leaves above the current ones.
even with advanced openGL enabled, it makes sense when you think about it.
if you're lagging underground, advanced openGL usually helps.
